On Tuesday 15th January a Gifted and Talented session was run by Mrs Weekes and Mrs Bush for our able gymnasts in Years 4, 5 and 6. We had a two-hour session where the first hour was spent on the children practising their skills and stretching these skills to achieve new things. We practised doing handstands that carried on to a forward roll, backward rolls into a back support position. Also trying out new skills on benches and the spring board. For the second hour the children used their skills to work in groups of 2, 3 or 4. They managed to achieve a fantastic range of balance and coordination team work. I think they all thoroughly enjoyed the morning!
On Tuesday 29th January, 2018 the children from years 1, 2 and 3 who are able gymnasts from each class had an extra two hours of gymnastics to expand and develop further skills.
They all had a wonderful exploring how to improve on their skills at holding different positions and learning the names for them. They all tried to create Teddy Bear rolls, headstands, Japanas and cartwheels to name but a few. They tried out some paired work shapes. Finally they all had a chance to use these skills on the apparatus. For many it was the first time they got to use a springboard as an aid of jumping on to the ‘A’ frames. They certainly enjoyed transferring their skills to different apparatus and they achieved many things that stretched their abilities. Well done to all of them. Mrs Weekes is very proud of all that they achieved!
